The 5th PALNET Symposium on Peer Assisted Learning
will be held on 18th– 19th May 2011 in Athlone Institute of Technology

Registration Registration to attend the symposium is free of charge.
Note that the symposium will commence with a pre-dinner talk followed by a networking dinner on the evening of May 18th 2011, and continue for the whole day on May 19th 2011. Places are limited particularly for the networking dinner, and early registration is thus highly recommended.

Call for Presentations The Organising Committee for the 5th PALNET Symposium on Peer Assisted Learning would like to invite presentations that share experience, expertise, good practices, insights, as well as case studies and research findings into one or more of the following streams:
- Impact of Peer-based Learning on enhancing student learning experience and supporting their transition, progression, retention and completion;
- Variations and Models of peer-assisted learning, peer tutoring, peer mentoring, and other academic support/learning models that facilitate students active engagement with one another.
- Challenges and Solutions with regards to initiating, implementing, maintaining and sustaining successful peer assisted learning programmes.
- New & First Time Experience with peer supported learning at your department, college or institution.
Presentation Types:
- Papers (25 minutes in total): it is recommended that presentations should be no longer than 20 minute with 5 minutes for questions and brief discussion. Papers can be either:
- research focused presenting data and results pertaining to objective/subjective assessment/evaluation, case studies and research findings;
- case & reflective studies examining for example experience of challenges, problems and providing potential remedies and solutions;
- project focused presenting/describing new innovation/models/variations, new peer-based learning initiatives/projects at individual, discipline, department, collage and/or institutional level.
- Workshops (40 minutes in total): these presentations are designed to provide exposure to novel approaches, best practices and/or an engagement in a valuable learning experience. Hence emphasis in these presentations should be on interactivity and audience participation, allowing for relatively longer discussions and/or “hands-on” experience. Student participation/delivery is welcomed in these sessions to highlight their experiences, perceptions and leadership. Proposers should highlight the type and nature of intended interactive activities in their submission abstract.
- Posters: these presentations are flexible and allow informal interaction with a large number of symposium attendees. Poster are presented in the form of visual displays/exhibits and handout materials. Poster presenter(s) is expected to be present at their designated poster stand for the period of the session (about 60 minutes) to share information, and answer questions about the presentation topic.

Submission of Proposals for Presentations:
All proposals should be submitted via the Symposium Submission Page. Note that when submitting a proposal, you will be asked to provide the following information:
- Title of presentation/paper
- 300 word abstract
- Area/topic of presentation (choose from area/topics provided above, or supply your Keywords)
- Proposal type (Choose from above presentation types)
- Name(s) of Presenter(s), position(s), affiliation(s) & contact details
- Symposium days you intend to attend (i.e. both 18th & 19th or 19th only)
- Audiovisual requirements

- Notification of decisions on proposals: 21st April 2011
- Deadline for registration: 3rd May 2011
