This new degree is the first of its kind in Ireland to offer a qualification in hotel and leisure management. It will give you the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary for employment in management and/or support positions within the hotel and leisure sector, and/or for further academic study in this or related areas.
The scope of the programme covers customer service, operations and management of hotel and leisure resources, enterprises and/or resorts in a modern dynamic business environment. It will equip you with the knowledge and skills for specialised activity in key hotel and leisure areas – front office and accommodation, food and beverage, water quality, measurement and safety, exercise and fitness programmes, developing leisure partnerships and leisure product innovation.
Reflecting as it does the defined needs of tourism industry professional bodies, there is a particular emphasis on the management disciplines of marketing, operations, accounting and finance, human resource management, and the application of information and communication technologies in the context of the hotel and leisure industry. As a student on this degree, you will also learn how to evaluate the impact of risk factors in hotel and leisure management and apply risk control measures.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate
Grade D3 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish).
FETAC
Any FETAC level 5 qualification is acceptable. There are no specific module requirements.
