The sport, leisure and tourism industry is a very important one to the Irish economy. This two-year higher certificate will provide you with the background necessary for a successful career in a wide range of tourism, leisure, business and sports-related activities. In delivering this programme, emphasis is placed on developing your technical skills.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate
Grade D3 at ordinary level in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate examination. Two of these subjects must be Mathematics and a language (English or Irish).
FETAC
Any FETAC level 5 qualification is acceptable. There are no specific module requirements.
Modules
Year 1 – Semester 1
Sports Studies, Financial Accounting, Information Technology, Learning to Learn.
plus one module from
Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sports Administration, Sociology of Sport.
Year 1 – Semester 2
Communications & Work Based Learning, Anatomy and Exercise Physiology, Financial Accounting, Introduction to Business & Management, Sports Coaching.
A work placement in year one of minimum 120 hours’ duration in an approved setting is mandatory.
Year 2 – Semester 1
Facility Management, Sports Studies, Financial Management, Lifestyle Development, Work-Based Learning.
Year 2 – Semester 2
Marketing Principles, Human Resource Management & Training, Sports Coaching, Exercise & Fitness
A work placement in year two of minimum 120 hours’ duration in an approved setting is mandatory.
Progression
When you graduate from this programme, you are eligible to apply to join the Bachelor of Business in Sport Management (Level 7) at AIT, or related Level 7 programmes at other third-level institutions.
