The aim of this module is to enable learners to:
- critically appraise the values and principles underpinning person centred approaches and practice and its potential for inclusion for people with disabilities in society
- evaluate the skills and competencies necessary for incorporating the person centred ethos into practice and to be able to critically analyse particular approaches according to international best practice
- incorporate work-based learning as a tool for reflective practice
On completion of the module, the learner will be able to:
- critique person centred planning as a model of best practice
- evaluate a variety of person centred tools and apply the most appropriate tools according to circumstances
- critically examine the skills required for the person centred planning process
- assess the current international trends for supporting people with disability and identify various funding supports for disability related services
- analyse the challenges in implementing person centred approaches in their work, and develop creative and innovative responses
The module will feature a variety of teaching and learning techniques, including lectures, guest speakers, workshops, role plays, videos, group discussion, independent study, case studies and problem solving exercises.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold an honours degree (Level 8) in applied social studies or cognate discipline.

Progression
Learners who are awarded module-level awards are eligible to progress towards a Master of Arts or Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Social Care Practice.
