Q. How do I know if I am eligible for a maintenance grant?
A. Students who are entering grant-approved courses for the first time may be eligible for a maintenance grant if they satisfy the relevant conditions of their grant-awarding authority (i.e. local authority/VEC). For further information, see www.studentfinance.ie.
Q. Where do I apply for a maintenance grant?
A. For third level courses, you should apply to your local vocational educational committee (VEC) or local county council. This is usually the county of your home address.
Q. I have already completed first year; will I be entitled to a maintenance grant for an alternative first year programme?
A. This depends on the individual nature of your situation. Please contact grants@ait.ie for further information.
Q. I am eligible for a maintenance grant, but have not yet received official notification. Do I still need to pay the Student Services Fee?
A. Yes. Those not in receipt of official notification of the award of a maintenance grant must pay the Student Services fee. If a maintenance grant is subsequently awarded, the Student Services fee will be refunded automatically into the student nominated bank account. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that the Fees and Grants Office have a copy of the award letter received from the awarding body. Also please ensure that you have submitted a student bank account details form.
Q. How will my maintenance grant be paid?
A. The maintenance grant for students on higher certificate and ordinary degree programmes (Level 6 and Level 7 programmes) will be paid by the institute, directly into the student’s nominated bank account. Please note that it is the responsibility of each student to submit to the Fees and Grants Office, details of their current bank account (i.e. account number and sort code). This information should be submitted on the ‘Bank Account Details’ form.
