Awarding Bodies/Course Accreditation
Awarding Bodies/Course Accreditation
The courses offered at AIT reflect the current and future needs of Ireland’s industrial and commercial sectors, while at the same time meeting the highest national and international standards and gaining recognition and exemptions from the appropriate professional bodies.
AIT is proud of the fact that its academic standards are independently and internationally recognised as being of the highest quality. As a result, the institute is empowered by HETAC, the Irish national awarding body for higher education, to confer its own (HETAC-accredited) awards up to Level 9 taught programmes and for Level 9 research awards.
The institute has obtained additional recognition for its courses by professional bodies wherever possible, in order to enhance the professional standing of graduates and to provide them with the fullest possible advantages for employment and career development. The main recognitions obtained are summarised here and are shown in more detail within the course-specific information.
Many courses are granted substantial examination exemptions from the relevant professional body. Courses offered by the Business School have been afforded exemptions/recognition from such bodies as ACCA, CIMA, CPA, the Marketing Institute of Ireland, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
Courses offered by the School of Engineering have been awarded exemptions/recognition, as appropriate, by such bodies as Engineers Ireland, the Engineering Council, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Royal Society of Chartered Surveyors of Ireland.
Courses in the School of Humanities have been afforded exemptions/recognition, as appropriate, from such bodies as the Irish Hotel and Catering Institute and the Hotel, Catering and International Management Association.
The School of Science has negotiated exemptions/recognition from the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland, the Institute of Biology, the Veterinary Council of Ireland, the Dental Council, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and An Bord Altranais/Nursing Board for a range of courses.
