Quality Assurance Office
The institute has a Quality Assurance (QA) Office which is responsible for coordinating and providing support to internal and external academic quality assurance activities. The institute’s Academic Registrar has overall responsibility for QA matters. In order to assist in the achievement of its mission and vision for the future, the institute has established procedures for quality improvement and quality assurance.
The institute has been awarded a Certificate of Agreement from HETAC in respect of its procedures for quality assurance designed to improve and maintain the quality of education and training. This certificate recognises that the academic systems and procedures of the institute have been accredited to accord with highest international standards.
The institute’s academic QA procedures operate at various levels. These processes are continually reviewed and updated in accordance with decisions by the institute’s academic council, and in accordance with the requirements of national agencies.
Quality is owned by and is the responsibility of everyone in the institute and core quality issues are dispersed across a range of areas. AIT’s academic, support and administrative functions contribute to determining the quality of the overall student experience. The institute has developed rigorous procedures to ensure that the quality of courses is maintained and enhanced. Procedures for obtaining student views on all aspects of course design and delivery are an integral part of the approach to QA. Such feedback represents a valuable input to the planning and development of programmes.
The focus of the institute’s quality improvement/quality assurance procedures is not just on maintaining the academic standard of courses, although this is a vital element of meeting the needs of students, within the constraints of resources available, the institute aims to assure the quality of the students’ experience while they are attending AIT and to foster quality improvement at all levels.
