Functions of QA Office

The specific duties being undertaken by the Quality Assurance Office currently include:

  • Support development of institute policy and procedures in relation to academic and administrative quality assurance and improvement, in line with statutory and awarding body requirements. Maintenance, coordination, documentation, review and further development of these processes and procedures.
  • Promotion/evaluation of quality issues throughout the institute and encourage dialogue on quality and standards.
  • Acting as the institute contact point for quality improvement and enhancement issues.
  • Assist the coordination of the business of Academic Council and its sub-committees.
  • Supervision and coordination of the secretariat function of the Academic Council and sub-committees, including development of meeting schedules and agendas.
  • Respond to actions arising from Academic Council and sub-committee discussions and responsible for ensuring that sub-committee issues are disseminated throughout the committee structure and the institute.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual reports on the work of Academic Council and preparation of the annual reports for the sub-committees.
  • Provision of assistance and advice to staff engaged in institutional/programmatic reviews and assistance in the preparation of the subsequent self-study report(s).
  • Development of procedures for the assessment of proposed new programmes and the review of existing programmes.
  • Assist in the preparation and finalisation of submissions for proposed new programmes prior to dispatch to the validation agency, and representation of QA Office at subsequent panel visits.
  • Identification of information requirement on institute website and intranet, and liaison with relevant staff to facilitate update of this information.
  • Development of a QA Documentation and Reference Centre.
  • Promotion of quality improvement staff development activities, including induction programme for new staff, and liaison with external standards and quality agencies.
  • Development of links with personnel undertaking similar roles on a national and international level.
  • Attendance and contribution to national conferences and meetings on quality improvement and enhancement within the Irish higher education system.
